Welcome to Elm Class
Class structure and curriculum
Elm is one of Hawthorns specialised Communication model classes. In Elm we follow the SCERTS model framework where we focus on Social Communication and Emotional Regulation. We also have a big focus on developing play skills, engagement in learning and independence.
We have an informal/semi-formal curriculum which provides many opportunities for children to practise their social communication. We aim to make all our learning really hands on and fun so that children can achieve maximum engagement and develop a love of learning. Some of the activities we do in Elm are - Attention Autism, Magic Box, Communication Groups, Sensory activities, Messy play, Sensory relaxation, Play skills, outdoor learning, forest school and cooking. Your children might come home messy but please be assured they have had lots of fun!!
Please can you ensure your child has a spare uniform in school just incase they need changing. You will also need to send in an indoor and outdoor PE kit. Our PE day is Thursday. We also ask that your child has warm waterproof clothing in school for our outdoor learning sessions. These are currently also on Thursday's where we go exploring in the forest! Please ensure all clothing is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us and keep your eyes peeled on Twitter for our daily photo's and videos showing you all the fun we have been having!
